Welcome to

Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue

Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue is based in the village of Barnacle in Warwickshire. Founded by Debbie Boddington in 2018, our aim is to rescue and rehabilitate as many hedgehogs as we possibly can, while also helping local people learn how they can take simple steps to help hedgehogs in the wild.

Voted Britain’s favourite mammal by the public, these adorable little animals sadly face many challenges in the wild, and their numbers have declined sharply in recent years. Loss of habitat, lack of food, extreme weather and increasingly busy roads have all contributed to the large reduction in their numbers, but the good news is there are lots of things we can do to fight back and help preserve hedgehogs in our ecosystem.

The volunteers at Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue work tirelessly to save and treat our hedgehogs so they can be successfully released back into the wild. We will never turn a sick or injured hedgehog away, but animal rehabilitation is expensive, and as a small rescue we rely so much on the kindness of individuals and businesses generously donating, and for this we (and the hogs!) are very grateful.

Please take some time to look around our website, read about our work, find out how you can encourage hedgehogs into your own garden, and maybe even consider joining our team of hedgehog foster carers! Thank you.

**IMPORTANT MESSAGE**

Please do not turn up at the rescue with a hedgehog without speaking to us beforehand. We only have a limited number of spaces at our hedgehog hospital to take in new arrivals. Please call (024) 76 101 817 to discuss your hedgehog, and one of our team will help you. See our 'Found a Hedgehog?' page for full advice.

THANK YOU

Cost of Living Crisis Appeal

We know times are tough for many people now, and at the Rescue we're having to cope with increased costs for heat and light for our rescued little hogs, as well as price increases for their food and medical supplies. Even our volunteers are affected by fuel costs when they drive out to collect hedgehogs that have been found in distress.

Spring and early summer are a very busy time for us with dozens of babies and young hogs needing our help. Our hedgehog hospital and rehabilitation centre has been bursting at the seams for some time now, and some of our foster carers have had over 10 hedgehogs in their care at the same time, which goes to show the amazing dedication of our volunteers.

If you can afford even just a few pounds, please consider clicking on our donations page and seeing how you can help us to help the hedgehogs - thank you.

"We are incredibly grateful to anyone who has made a donation this past year.

Your help has been invaluable, and has literally meant the difference between life and death for some of our hedgehogs. Thank you."
